Hi,
I doubt you'll need a vernier, just use an offset key if the timings out. Belts should be easy to get hold of, seen on in the local MS window.
Secondhand shouldn't be a worry just fit some new seals, the small one is only £1.50 from MS, changed mine the weekend.
Cheers,
Gavin :)

have you run an engine with a belt drive before, i'm considering one for my 998 turbo build as i have no timing gear yet! i'll get somat this week!

whichever type i get i need the crank timing gear & damper pulley to get my balancing done (hope that dont take long)

but yeah! belt or chain, what should i go for? i'm a bit of a novice so i dont really understad how you pick the correct offset key, i know minits do a few differant types of key!

I've been running the Minispares vernier kit for years, no problems. The belts are cheap and readily available. Much quieter than a chain.

surely the belt is prone to snapping, and surley it needs changing more often say every 10000 or 20000

The MS beltdrive goe's straight on a 998, no different to a 1275.

I've been using a vernier type for 5 years now.

The new designed (plastic cover type) are the best, my alloy one is a pain to get the pulleys off.

Hi,
Wil .. Haven't you got 3 threaded holes in each pulley? The 3 cover bolts screw in and draw the pulley off for you *wink*

Gavin :)

Hi,
Nope that's the lot.
Mine's got the same 3 bolt holes in the crank gear too.
Just lightly sand (WD40 and wet and dry) the inside of the pulley to get a nice sliding fit *wink*
Cheers,
Gavin :)
