intercooler connection query

has anybody got any pics of where the intercooler acyualy attatches to a) the plenum and b) ?

somthing has got me a bit stumped in that i spoke to a guy that says the air feed pipe is interlinked to the intercooler which i would have thought is rubbish as otherwise the intercooler would not have to be pressure tight.

so could you show me where..
a.. the air feed with filter joins the engine.
b.. intercooler connection 1
c.. intercooler connection 2

that way i know for sure 100% what i am doing.

An intercooler is fitted between the compressor side of the Turbo and the plenum chamber, it's job is to cool the compressed air from the Turbo, so it would be no good having it before the Turbo in line with the air filter, that would do F -All ! Lol

Hi,
Remove the red pipe between the turbo and plenum / carb. You now have 2 pipe stubs, coonect each one to an end of the intercooler.
Job done
You will notice this is quite difficult with the standard pipes, so see Giallofly's post for the modified ones

My Mini build diary

Here you can see the pipe coming from the Turbo, through the intercooler & out the other side into the plenum. In the top right hand side of the engine bay is the air filter, which goes down to the Turbo.

in some cases, the intercooler is linked to the charge pipe via a blow off valve that recirculates the vented charge back into the intake instead of into atmosphere, like the standard impreza system, so he is correct in a way.
