to start i would like to add that i browse the forum almost daily, but my knowledge is far from great and so do not post that often. :(

my query however is that of fibreglass doors, i have posted my project in the correct section, and its now come to the time for some welding! i am planning on purchasing carbon bonnet, boot etc and contemplating buying some f/g doors.

i searched on here to see what peoples thoughts were but i couldn't really guage how people felt about them. I plan to use the car as a daily driver (at least that is the plan) and wonder if this should change my opinions on buying f/g doors?

i also read that they aren't such a great fit? and i'm unsure on how the window works (glass, perspex?) do they have a window winder etc.

peoples thoughts would be great.

thanks

stoke-on-trent

pretty much all f/g doors afaik will not allow winding windows. they are designed to be trimmed to the car - every mini is a very slightly different shaoe. lol. i wouldnt use them on a daily driver since they are only single skinned and no may leak. i'm sure i've heard that one before

No way would I use them on a daily driver, they are no where near waterproof, and very flimsy.

Not for a daily driver. In fact, not for any road car really.

i have some very "sus" fibreglass doorskins on my old clubman doors!

the differance is weight is alot to be honest! as previously said, they are a little on the flimsy side & i'm yet to perfect a method of fixing them to the frames, they were going to go on a daily but have decided its a no go! may put them on for avon park though if i have time *happy*

i'd say if you want lighter doors on a daily with a degree of practicality

get some of those ally doorskins, lighter, dont rust & at least its metal! thats a halfwayhouse for a daily option i reckon

my mates got curley "carbon fibre" doors on his car (as far as i can tell they are the f/g doors, but the fabric is simply stained black...pretty sure its not real c/f)

anyway theyre shocking haha, wouldnt even have them on the rally car, just gonna gut some steel ones and when they rust maybe replace the skins with ally ones.

Shropshire.

i had some f/g ones and they were shite.. went back to the old ones i took off.

the fit was poor, even with them fitting as best as they could, they would leak and flap all over the place. pants.
