hi there
new to the forum, I am currently working on a supercharged morris minor project. I am using the metro turbo carb, but mine has the plastic float missing. I cant seem to find a replacement part, only the one for the standard HIF carb. is the float the same for the turbo and non turbo versions?

thanks,

I believe that the turbo float is foam filled to stop it being crushed under pressure. Try either Burlen or Avonbar for a new float. You may need to phone them & have a chat as opposed to just looking at their websites.

really? I know thats the common practice on other turbo carbs setups, but i dont think SUs bother with it...

they definatly dont seem to stock them at burlen anyway:

It would appear that I stand corrected.

thanks for all the replies,
if you look on the burlen website the part number for a float for a turbo and a non turbo carb, the part number is the same. maybe a good idea to call them instead. but ive been assured that I really need a foam filled float, i dont want it to run lean under boost!

Hi,
I think you only need a foam filled one if it's made of brass like a weber.
You'll need some serious pressure to deform the HIF plastic float!
Cheers,
Gavin :)

cant seem to find any foam filled floats for this carb... ive taken one out of a non turbo carb I had lying around and it doesnt squash easily (you can deform it slightly if you squeeze it really hard with your fingers) Also been thinking about the theory, if the float gets so squashed that it no longer floats, then it will sink and I will get overfuelling, which is much less of a problem than the mixture leaning out.
