hey chaps since ive had the car on the road its been burning hell of alot of oil, a big cloud would appear wen dropping down gears approaching islands, well wen i pulled away actually. i suspected the valve seals, even tho had new ones wen i built it. finished changing them today and its still smoking.
what do you guys think would be worth checking next? could it be the turbo blowing oil into the chambers??
cheers

Hi,
Very thin oil will cause this to. Might be worth an oil change first?
Cheers,
Gavin :)

Could be the turbo but if it's the one I supplied you I'd be fairly confident that it isn't as that was the turbo (except for the standard actuator being refitted) off my old 160bhp car which never gave me any trouble.
Obviously if it turns out to be then I'll swap it for another one or refund as you prefer.

I take it you used new hoses to the turbo, if so then check the insides for oil. If it's the turbo there will be a fair bit in there.

Also worth checking how you have plumbed the breather system up as if your getting crank case pressure and the breathers are connected to the inlet system you could be getting a lot of oil that way. Let everything breath to atmosphere (an old coke can makes a good temp catch tank .... not temp!!!!).

It is not unheard of for the breathers to be blocked to the point the engine can't. You can usually check this by getting the engine up to temperature and then pulling the oil filler cap off whilst revving the engine in neatural. This is only a basic check however as if your getting blow by on the rings it will be worse under boost.

What do you know about the bottom end?

Keep me posted mate. Your more than welcome to ring me mate and I'll try to explain better.

thanks for the replys chaps.
i did the bottom end when i built the engine up so that shud not be a problem, also new rings ands pistons, so again hope thats not the problem.
roger dont worry about the turbo you wernt to know, thanks for being so reasonable tho.
there was a little play in the guilds but i thort that if the seals are ok then it cant pass through them anyway?
