It never rains but it pours!!!

Changing the cyinder head on the megane due to a cambelt slip, and some monkey (before me) has managed the round off all 10 head bolts!!!!

i managed to remove 5 but the others aint shifting, I welded a spanner onto the end of one but didnt have enough room to lever it around.

So i now have 2 options:
1) im not re-using the head anyway so i could angle grind it down before grinding the head off the bolts. Then i can remove the cylinder head and figure out a way of removing the remainder of the bolts.

or

2) buy one of these: http://www.axminster.co.uk/product-Axminst...-Set-462398.htm However i have never used one and am not sure about them........

has anyone used one before? are they any good? bare in mind that these are head bolts, so are in pretty tight lol

welding anything else on is out of the question as i broke my welder in the process tonight lol

thanking you :)

You can get a coarse, reverse screw socket, intended for removing rusted, siezed, rounded nets etc...

not sure what they are called, but they are absolutely superb.
I used some Snap On ones on very very tight, rounded/rusted nuts. These things bite into the nut/bolt like you wouldnt believe, and with little effort.

This is the easiest link I could find on a quick search, but you can buy similar here in the UK..

Drill the heads off, you'll only need to drill about 10mm depth and maybe 12mm diameter to drill the heads off the bolts.

If there nuts then drill the side of the nut and split the nut or use a nut splitter. if there bolts get your drill out, shouldn't be too difficult to drill, you'd be wise to block any oil galleries first mind! *wink*

Any pics?

Those easy outs are OK, you'd be better off leaving part of the bolt/stud sticking out of the block and using a couple of nuts locked together.

They are good I use the metrinch sockets at work as are equipment is a mixture of metric and imperial.

Once the head of the bolt has been removed there shouldn't be that much resistance on the remaining part left in the block as there is no tension there anymore.

Those sockets are handy though have to say.

got 3 of them off by heating up a 9mm socket and bashing it over it lol

once it cooled down they were removed quite easily(ish)

the other 2 were an absolutly nightmare, ended up drilling the head off flush with the cyliner head, but the cylinder head still wont come off??

do i need to drill a little further? and yes i have take all the other bolts off lol

Try giving the head a tap with a soft mallet, sometimes they can be reluctant to shift.
