Hi, just bought my front end went for the 2-piece fibre glass from abs as recommended on here, and im not dissapointed, I would highly recommend this company, very helpful and fantastic front... anyway, before I fit my brace bars how should I stop the subframe moving away from the body (ie out of alignment) I heard something about jacking the car up an inch before fitting? but couldnt the car, engine and subframe all be bricked up before anything is cut?

Hope you can help,

Cheers, Kav

all i did with my old one was left it on the ground, chopped the front off then fitted the brace bars without moving the car. i wouldn't have though the front mounts actually bare any major load they're there to hold up the front end more than anything else.

If you want to be sure then fit your solid tower and floor mounts before chopping away, that way it definately wont move.

Yer thats what Im gonna do, put my solid mounts on first, can anyone else shed any light on this 1 inch jacking method? cos I dont wanna brace my front out of alignment, as I'm gonna weld my brace bars in on the inner wings.

Cheers for the reply btw, Kav

Never heard of jacking it up by an inch, sounds like a bodge of sme sort.

If you fit the solid mounts at the back first then it's not going anywhere.

Ive never done anything as well so, i think the brace bars just brace the front againt impacts, like dropping off curbs, pots holes ect ect.

Hi,
Fit solid mount, you'll be fine.
The jack it up sounds like a compensation for knackered rubber mounts!
By jacking it up you could put more load on the rear mounts, causing stress fracture problems!
Cheers,
Gavin :)
