a LIL fishing village on the coast - Newcastle Upon Tyne

ok i am being re stationed to South Shields soon and that will mean travelling through the Tyne Tunnel every day at £1.20 a pop, also fighting traffic at rush hour, if I finish at 1700 and take a car, i will not get home until 1815 and its a ten minute journey !!! so i have decided on going for my direct access to motorbikes, i know bikes are a massive risk i see it every day, but this is the only way i will not spend most my free time waiting in queues and costing me a bomb in tunnel fees !

ok questions. does anyone know the crack with direct access ?

also what is the best bike to go for, i fancied a Yamaha 600 Thundercat sports tourer type but i have been told they dont make em anymore :(

Could you not just get a 50cc chicken chaser, that way you only need a CBT??

Somewhere around Swindon

get a super moto style bike, more moneverable in traffic that a sports tourer you sit high so seeing what others are doing is great and if its a single its nice and loud so people can here you coming

i would personally love a custom chopper but i am not hairy enough to ride one

Tom. get a 50cc and you dont need a CBT depending on when you passed your car test and you dont need L plates. only need a CBT if between 50cc and 125cc and you will need L plates as well.

only children need a CBT for a 50cc and they need L plates

I was under the impression that you needed a CBT regardless nowadays!

And still has to be retaken every 2 years...could be wrong?

just a cbt & a supermoto style 125cc with a straight through pipe, gets ya through traffic, high up for good vision! avoiding nutters in cars!!!!

i done my direct access 2 yrs ago, i think the law/test has changed now though, i think you have to ride a restricted bike for 1yr after passing the full test, 33hp only,

if its just for the daily commute get a cbt & 125, its the best choice for fuel & cost overall really, & 125's are not that slow!
any 2stroke 125 will piss most cars allday everyday, & they are fun!

if you want a big bike for blasting around at stupid speeds (where aloud *tongue*) do the direct access

the Search-section on this forum is blummin superb & simple to use, unlike some other forums, without the search-section & the help of this bunch of chaps on here i'll never be able to !!!Start the day with a 998cc turbo!!! :) i'm getting closer though!

Hi,
You'll need Direct Access for sure. As for bikes I've got an R6, but I'd recommend a super moto style for what you want to use it for.
Take a look at there's loads of bike reviews, info, bikes for sale...
Although noisey exhausts are illegal, it wakes up the dozing car drivers*wink*
Cheers,
Gavin :)

I've just passed my direct access bike test two weeks ago. If your over 21 you can go direct access and ride whatever you want, under 21 your restricted to 33hp, or you have to have held your full license before you can move on to a bigger bike.

Get a moped...proper chav style! lol
I think the licencing has changed. Doesn't matter when you passed your test, you have to do a CBT.
Used to be provisional upto 125 I believe.
Like if you passed you test before sometime in the 90's you can still drive a vehicle up to 8.5 ton I think it is. Could be wrong.....getting old!

The only licence change is the one that made a full car licence a full moped (50cc) licence
If you pass your car test now you have to pass CBT to validate your full moped licence
I think this has been the case since 2000 if you passed before that your car licence is a full moped licence.
The exact date of this change I am not sure about but it wont be hard to find out (dvla website) if you need to know.
Allan
Ps small bikes are crap if you run on main roads and two strokes are a last resort pass your test get a 400cc super moto or a 600cc comuter like a bandit hornet fazer Tcat or sumit simmilar.
Just my tupins worth
