yep! boot space gone *happy* i cant do any favours getting shopping for anyone lol YES!

i think it may fit between the rear arches which is ok on the handling side is'nt it, weight infront of the rear wheel centres

considering i'm trying to get the shell & components lighter a big fuel tank is a bit of a contradiction but my mini is my daily driver! so less stops is good, at thee track i'll just put less fuel in

i'm so suprised it weighs very little (apart from when its full *tongue*)
its probobly 3/4 of the weight if a mini steel 7.5 gallon tanks!

i have a polishing mop (cheapo pro type like a 7.5" grinder with lower rpm) i think i may get some t-cut on it & polish it a little!!!!! *happy*

i bought it cause of the size, price & it has the fuel return on so less hassle there! apart from mounting it! may have to make some mounts up!

are ratchet straps ok?

if i made a couple of tabs & get them welded on is it ok to mount my fuel pump on the tank? its a metro turbo pump, i'd have it semi adjustible to suit other pump sizes to be on the safe side, i cant TIG weld though with is a bit of an arse, heard you can weld alloy with correct gas & wire on the mig but never tried it, i can weld ok!

i dont get bargains much i'm dead happy *happy* well..........apart frm mini stuff/fun *tongue*

i've just thought, how do i fill the hole where the old foller cap comes through hehe, i 4got about that bit! duuurrrrhhh!

i'm rubbish with filler, i can make a plate up & weld it but the filler shaping just annoys me! takes ages!

i have cans of stonechip in white! i may stonechip at all apart from the side you see in the boot! ie the top & the side you see polished! the rest hardy stonechip! hmmmm have to think about it!

its a home made tank but its made ok! not sure if it'll fit between the arches now but i'll have a mess about this 2moro or the weekend, may fit it :) i need to plut the return for the time being though! bolt & a jubilee clip should suffice, i dont think its baffled whch is a little cack but it was cheap enough for me to make into what i want

see if i can get some tig welding done for beers!!!! *tongue*

bk with a pic & report soon :)

realised it is baffled chaps, thats no bad thing is it!

yep! lol the filler & fuel pipe in/outs are on the wrong side but i have copper pipe & decent clips to make up the differance hehe
it has one of those pipes like caterfield tanks where you can see the fuel level in a clear tube, thats cool for me cause my fuel guage (not sender) is fubarred hehe *tongue*

i think i may have to mod it a little to get it in but it'll be worth it, so i'm gonna have a scout around cov for someone that'll tig it up cheap & mod it how i want

what methods do other ppl use to mount an alloy tank?

cheers all tell me what ya think!

i'm nr coventry! milamber!

you can probobly make out 3 welds in the pic where the baffles are welded there are 2 baffles for the size of the tank, gotta say it looks massive in the pics with my dads minivan in the background, i have some ratchet straps & neoprene knocking about could i strap it in the boot with that, the neoprene would protect the tank from the straps & we all know how strong ratchet straps are!!!!

i'd love a TIG welder & be able to tig weld well! i'll try to clean it up tomorrow, i wont go mad on it, its a lil dented & scratched so cant make a how piece out of it, some nice drag race stickers would be good though *happy*

i might break out the grinder & chope the spare wheel well out & make the boot floor flat to make mounting the tank easier! the batterey is going in the car too! i have the bits to do it but i have to do my jobs in the entry at the mo cause the garage has my dads project in brrrrrr its cold n wet out!

cheers for the kind comments on my tank! it may not be the prettyist but i'm well happy!

Hi,
Once you've got a flat boot floor get some tabs welded onto the tank and use cotton reel exhaust rubbers to bolt it to the floor *wink*
Cheers,
Gavin :)

thats what my thoughts are gavin ;P should make things a bit easier

has anyone had any experiance or tried to weld alloy with a MIG welder, i'd only put the brackets/tabs on i need, rather than say weld a hole up in it! i know the wire & gas is available or would it be a risk t me blowing a hole in the tank, i'm pretty compitent with a MIG, i welded lots of differant metal thickness's just not alloy
