Just been out in my estate (n/a, 1293, 300deg cam, full race head) and have a wierd oil pressure issue.

- at idle the pressure is around 30psi
- on acceleration it drops to 10psi
- when you back off it shoots up to 70psi the slowly drops to 30psi again

oil level is fine. all gaskets should be ok as it had a replacement gearbox 3 weeks ago, and it been fine since then. I have one of those oil pressure adjustmenters from MS but even using that to up the pressure does nothing.

Its really hacked me off now, very tempted to just sell up and buy summat sensible (and slow *frown* )

Any ideas?

If you havent already pull the release valve out and give it a good clean,

I had one that kept sticking really bad and found flushing the release valve hole with about half a tin of WD40 sorted it.

Plus theres the good old balbearing replacement if you've not done it.

Why a replacement g/box? Did the old one shit itself? If so did you clean all the oilways in the block and fit a new oil pump? If not it could perhaps be shit in the oil pump has scored it.

However its weird the way is is fluctuating. Have you double checked that the oil pressure gauge feed pipe is not blocked/kinked/getting trapped by engine movement???

ok its fixed.. I was gonna report that it we the relief valve full of shite.. but i gotta be truthfull as much as it is embarasing....

I checked the oil level on thursday night, it was just on the minimum, I thought that will be ok I'll do a change at the weekend.

So when this problem appeared this morning, the engine had been running so I could not get a dip stick reading properly, so I assumed it was still around the min mark as i havd only done 30ish miles.

How wrong was I... As you probly guessed there was hardly any oil in it.. just done a full oil/filter change and it back to 70psi...

Now i'm happy the engine hasnt gotta come out again, but feel a right pratt for not checking it over properly.. DOH!
