I went on a mini run today the moorland coastal run, but got really stressed with my diff. Ive got standard metro turbo setup engine, with a 1litre rebuilt diff, and at 75mph its screeming.

i dont understand something though, this is a standard metro turbo engine i have in, and when i took it out of the metro i just took off the diff and put the rebuilt one from my 1litre onto it, and then put it all in my mini. I didnt change any pinion gears? But it still works? Previous Engine: 1040cc Morespeed engine, 1275 turbo head T2 Turbo Mirage Manifolds Megajolt

Maybe that's where the noise comes from? On 13th Jul, 2012 Ben H said:

its not a gearbox noise, its a high revving noise... Previous Engine: 1040cc Morespeed engine, 1275 turbo head T2 Turbo Mirage Manifolds Megajolt

You should always change the pinion and crown wheel together if you are changing ratios.

Axel is spot on, but on this particular ratio, 3.1 and 3.2 I think that the pinion is the same as a matter of fact. On 13th Jul, 2012 Ben H said:

It may well have the same number of teeth, but the teeth would be a different design to work with a different pitch circle. do you mean the big cog wheel arround the outside? when i had both diffs side by side they did have the same number of teeth and did look the same, i guess ill find out when it comes out!

If they had the same number of teeth and looked the sam thenchances are you put back in exactly the same ration as you took out.

I stand corrected. Some fancy gear design.

Feebs, the "Big Cog " is the crown wheel, the "Small Cog" is the pinion. They are reffered to as the FD {final drive}. The "Diff" is what the crown wheel bolts onto.
