couple of parts i recieved today an mg metro cam (i think) & my modded main strap what ya think!

got these today!

the cam is supposed to be an mg metro cam & going by ac-dodds findings mine has the 1/4" ring machined into it after the 1st cam lobe!

the bearing surfaces look in top condition to me, no deep scoring & the sear seems nice & even, lobes to me look ok, no pitting or chunks missing, but opinions needed as i'm a lil worried using a used cam! my followers & pushrods are new!






2nd is my moddded main strap with thrust grooves, i have to file it a minute amount for the thrusts to be a perfect snugg fit! not tight/not loose, just less than in interferance fit i'd say



i have also gained a metal splinter for my efforts lol
any advice is always really appriveiated, i tend to read stuff in the yellow book, ask at various mini shops then confirm stuff with you all as ya all more familier with this than most ppl i know to be honest, the only other car nut i know has the coszzy dolomite that was in retrocars mag

My Mini build diary

Plenty of cam lube or graphogen on the lobes and journals when building it, get it fired up and straight up to 2000rpm (NO lower) for 20-30min to knock the followers in and it will be fine.

I can't see shit. Get some decent pictures.

the pictures are rather crap, try holding the camera still

or try using a macro function if the camera has it.

I agree with Andre, macro function is what you need here.

i cant get jack all here in cov like graphogen, hermatite, engine build lube nothing, the places round here are absolutely "cack" is the word! used to be really easy to get this stuff but i struggle now

will the cam go again do you chaps think!

tom f many thanks for that!!! i'm getting my order of graphogen in, i've just been around coventry & i've had no luck getting any of these products, internet purchasing it'll have to be i reckon!

2000rpm for 30 mins, does'nt the engine get really hot atathat rpm for so long, i've olny had to run in one engine before but that was the oldschool way of 1000rpm for 10mins then dont go above 4000rpm or labour the engine for 1000miles, gonna clean & prep all my parts for the engine build 2moro, lay them all out nice & neat, keeping methodical about it

2000rpm or more for 30min is ESSENTIAL when using new followers, fail to do this and you could very possibly scrap your cam and followers.
If the cooling system is working effectively this will be no problem to do, I've done it to many engines (mini and other) over the years no problem.

cool! i'm just reading a thread on an mgb site about this tom, i should be running a metro front rad & my pump etc etc is all new so should be ok, do any of you chaps use that water wetter to aid colling, i only ask as i dont know if it works or not

oh arr 4g0t to ask, do you chaps agree tha this is an metro mg,vandan plas mini cooper rsp cam???? i went on the ac-dod guide!

also whats the timing figure on it? what do i set it up too, cheers all, may put the shortblock together this weekend if all is well
