I have converted to intertia style mainly for the clutch, but did not get the ring gear changed so am still using the inertia starter motor. The problem I ahve is that the starter motor wont turn the engine over - its a brand new motor bought this morning. the solenoid is also brand new, but on the motor side I am only getting around 5 volts through it. I'm pretty certain I have wired it all in correctly, but can take pictures if needed. Any insight woyuld be most helpful.

The 5 volts is your problem then, you need to sort your wiring out, and check earths are good.

i have double checked all the earths, but intend to get some new cables anyway - i even resorted to using some jumper cables as extra earths. the 5 volts is on the starter motor side of the solenoid - seems to work ok with 12v when the motor isnt connected so will redo the earths and make sure all is hunky dory tomorrow when i get a chance On 23rd Oct, 2009 sim_ou_nao said:

Stefaz, if cleaning the earths doesnt solve the problem (normaly does), check the voltage from one side of the solenoid to the other (The two heavy cables) whilst cranking the engine and check for volt drop there. Edited by 1380turbo on 9th Jul, 2007. |

i will check the drop accross the solenoid too mate see what it is and let you knoe. battery aint in the boot mate, is inside the car. tried more than one battery - new motor in and bypassed everything - putting a live and earth on the motor itself so i think i may have a bolt thats too long jamming the flywheel - unfortunatley i only have about 2 hours spare in the next day or so and theyre for eating lol. il check it when i get in from work tomorrow - wel wil probs be wednesday by then, but cheers guys.
