This is a slightly stupid question, but is best to set the clearances when the engine is cold, or up to temp?

Ive been thinking about it today and thought of merits for both

engine cold,

the settings should be more repeatable as the push rods will be at... what 20 deg +/- 10 deg rather than 100 deg +/- ???? deg

For most of us the application of alcohol usually leads to an inability to look women in the face when speaking to them, and a yearning for a kebab.

Nic starts thinking of Morris Minors.

Strange boy.........

I would love a reply where someone has tried this and managed to get a good thick screwdriver in between and thus making contact between the piston and valve :)

almost as good as a person i know who works for the AA, checked a cambelt tension with the engine runing by putting his finger between the belt and pulley. i think the belt was a bit tight as it took his finger off!!!
