Wondering if you can put a 1275 flywheel on a 998 and will it run?

Also the 998 in the older type clutch set up, so would it make anydiff putting the later type on?

I put a 1275 flywheel on, and the later clutch set up on, an older engine.Wondered if the chank was different cos when you start it makes a grinding noise, and the start motor is like solid to get out!

cheers

Hi,
You need to keep the same starterv motor to the same flywheel.
998 starter with 998 flywheel
1275 starter with 1275 flywheel*wink*
Failing that you need to start fitting new ring gears *surprised*
Cheers,
Gavin :)

Hi,
It's not so much the case of 998 or 1275. It's verto and pre verto.
If you have a pre-verto flywheel you need an inertia starter (just a big round drum)
If you have a verto clutch you need a pre engauged starter ( smaller body, with a piggy back solenoid ON the starter)
Otherwise as I said above, you'll need to fit a new ring gear *surprised*
Cheers,
Gavin :)

Hi,
Ring gear has to match the starter, nothing else :)

If your not sure which starter to use count the teeth on the ring gear. From what ive found 107 teeth means inertia starter 129 means pre engaged starter.

if you change ring gear you should also balance the flywheel

stoke-on-trent

its not in the actual gearbox mate - its just to mate it with the starter motor

everything seems ok apart from undoing the nut on the end of the clutch and crank that was so so tight for edges!

everything looks the same problem it looks like the starter is just getting on the end of the teeth and not push far enough across?? any ideas
