Got a yellow band type pipe kit from spares this mornin, just went to fit it and this is how it all goes on:

Hmmmm somethings not right lol. That is the right place for the pressure reducing valve isnt it?

Was thinking about bending the pipes anyway to reach it but im not sure if theyre long enough! They are bent properly to fit straght on anyway!!

Any suggestions would be good!!

Cheers,

Rich

your bias valve is in the wrong place. it should be under the pipes, but your car had the servo, with the servo cars the bias valve was moved towards the wing as the servo would have hit it.

That is the right place if your car was fitted with a servo. The non servo placement is more to the right.

Easiest thing to do is get some new pipes made up.

Measure how big you want them, then have them made with the fittings removed from the old pipes.

Most motor factors shold be able to make you some up.

or throw away that crappy bias valve and put the top one to the front and the bottom one to the rear with a manually adjustable bias valve (can be mounted on the subframe or in the car or any place you like)

But then you'll have no protection if you loose a front or rear line. It's good to keep them in a road car.

Cool thanks for replies!

I managed to get some pipes made up no problem, alot cheaper than I thought they'd be!

Just reading up on the master cylinder ive changed to and the bleeding order i need to do. Am just wondering, in the Haynes it says there is two different ways to bleed this type of master cylinder one order is for the "diagonal split dual circuit systems" and the other for the "front to rear spit dual circuit systems".

Im not really sure which of the two I have, is there a way of telling them apart?

Cheers,

Rich

Hi,
AFAIK there's never been a diagonal split Mini system.
How you tell is to follow the pipes, if both front go to 1 port on the master and both rear go to the other , then it's front/rear.
If each of the diagonals ie LF and RR go to one port and RF LR go to the other the it's diagonal split. This usually means 2 front to rear brake pipes too.
Cheers,
Gavin :)

There have indeed been diagonal split Mini brake systems, my 1977 Clubman Estate was like that until I ragged all the pipes off and re-plumbed it front to rear split with a manual brake bias valve inside the car.

I do not think they had diagonal split with the GMC 227 master as it has a stepped bore. That would cause havoc with different brake power at the two rear wheels...
