Just started the mini for the first time. At the moment the selector is out as im putting a quickshift on, the engine is currently in reverse so I could get the rollpin out of the selector shaft.

So i came to start the car which is on stands, expecting to see the hubs spin in reverse. The drivers side hub spins freely backward but the other side is doing jack shizzle!!!

What the hell is going on here? When the engine is off i can turn the engine over with the drivers side hub by spinning it but cant turn it over with the passanger side hub, theres no resistance so it doesnt seem like the driveshaft is connected somehow!!

Any ideas?

If it doesn't move when on the floor, panic!

I don't quite get what your saying, partially due to just coming bac from the pub at lunch time,


but...

with the engine in gear, turn a wheel on one side and the wheel on the other side shopuld rotatein the opoisite direction.

Its just your differential doing its job.

Ie. allowing the wheels to turn at different speeds.

Haha cheers for that i just asumed something was fooked as everything else is on that car!! Havnt really taught myself about diffs yet i guess i should!!

Tune in tomorrow for my daily problem!

Hang on a minuite, If both wheels are in the air and one spins the opposite wheel in a reverse direction that is fine.
The other wheel should not turn the engine over, it should do the same!!

The car is actually in reverse gear as i took the selector shaft out! When its not running and i spin one hub the other spins in the opposite direction!

speed didn't kill me, but taxation probably will
