Looking for assistance here guys, as I'm a bit 'out of it' having been 2 1/2 years since i left the greatest country called England...

So - my mum is after a car.

As per usual mums, all she wants is something cheap and reliable! Her current one is some big 'ol Audi Diesel (an 80 I think) that has finally given up - and was a bit of a barge for her anyways...

Anything along the lines of Fiesta, AX, 306, maestro, Escort, well - you get the idea...

So - what would you reccomend?
I can't help but think a non-turbo 306 diesel will do the job nicely myself - any thoughts?

Cheers,
TD

can't argue with that! dammit! *wink*

I had a 206 1.9d for a few days when the missus car was getting painted. I used more fuel getting to work in that than i usually do in my pd130.

Toyota Aygo currently takes my eye.

If it has to be diesel the avensis isn't bad, or a pug tdi.

After a pug 306 tdi myself estates can be picked up for approx 1.5k

I was ready to poo-poo this as something that couldn't be correct, but it seems you're right!

On the extra-urban, the Turbo DOES do slightly better than the Nat-asp. Wierd!

Wow, there are some rich boys on this site...

To me, a cheap car is 300 quid.
To my mum, a cheap car is 1000 quid.

You guys must be wiping your arse on twenties. LOL

This is interesting - I just worked out the cost for a years motoring for a Pug (just using that as an example as the data is a few links above)...

For 6k miles per year, there is nigh on no difference between a diesel and a 1.4.

Hi,
Aygo's are ace on fuel, the petrol is better than the TD!
I'd go for 306 or ZX. My mom had a ZX TD for years, never needed anything other than servicing... except when my dad put petrol in it!
Cheers,
Gavin :)
