Well here goes ive just run the freshly built engine from morspeed ,in consists of A turbo booster head, 1293 block omega pistons all new bearings rings etc, and a rebuilt turbo, one slight problem smokes badly ,I can understand initial start up smoke but ive run it for a while now and does not appear to be clearing but getting worse. The plugs are well oiled too.*frown*

any advice would be greatfully welcome cheers Rob

Hi,
I know that freshly rebuilt engines do smoke, but this goes away over time, the oily plugs could suggest the oil seals on the turbo or valves are to blame, has there been any improvement since driving it more?

Cheers, Kav

there has been no improvement and the turbo has had a full rebuild from its turbos the head was straight from morspeed along with the engine

Hi,
Who built the engine?
Any other problems?
What's the timing and mixture set to?
Does it stop smoking if you jack the front up?
Have you tried running it with the plenum intake pipe disconnected?
How are the breathers connected up?
Cheers,
Gavin :)

Take the plugs out, clean them up well. Disconnect the turbo outlet pipe leaving plenum to draw in air, and re-try. This'll confirm if it's the turbo or engine.

If it is this bad, you'll find a lot of oil inside the boost pipe.

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

is it breathing at all?

Doesnt sound good.

Mine smoked a little to start but then cleared up.

Have you had the exhaust elbow off?

Mine smoked like fook once when i had a dodgy oil drain and basically it wasnt burning any oil in the engine, just after it.

Just wondering if the dark plugs are a red herring as mine were dark due to incorrect mixture but didnt cause the smoke.

I have removed the timing chain case with the breather for a non breathing one, to make space for the electric water pump pipes but i have got the breather on ther rocker and clutch housing.

Running it not under load doesn't do anything really to help the rings bed in, you need to be driving it, get a couple of hundred miles under its belt and I am confident it will settle down and reduce the smoke that comes out.

I really do think that is what it needs, it is also important to do mileage that varys the engine speed and load, sitting on the motorway at a steady 60mph is not really any good, stop start fast speed low speed varied is what it needs. Good luck buddy.

I have rebuilt several tractor engines with the same problem if they are left to tick over by the operator Usually to keep the cab warm! they start smoking a hard session on the dyno usually breaks the glaze and sorts them out!
