Just poking around cars at Avon, I noticed that Nic uses an MG metro inlet manifold rather than the turbo one with the Mirage stuff.

Now I was told that this was because the turbo one didn't fit. However, just bolting my mirage stuff together in the garage it seems to fit ok.

Am I missing something?

I'd prefer to use the turbo manifold as it works well with the forced induction.

I was under the impression you could use either, but they designed it to fit with the na version as it was easier to get hold of.

I was under the impression that the mirage kit is designed to work with the NA MG Metro inlet manifold, don't know why this is, as like you say you are better off with the turbo item really.

I thought they workded with both,

but i do remember someone with a minus that couldn't fit the turbo one because the carb fouled the bonnet

Most turbo inlets have thicker flanges, i had to get my one machined down to 8mm to match the mirage manifold, but i think it depends which batch of mirage manifolds you have as they changed the flange design to stop gasket problems

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

i filed my flanges on my turbo one to fit and it was spot on.

Dan had his machined off the face and i think it made the inlet and manifold touch a bit, but nothing some casting cleaning didnt sort. although it may have touched before he machined it.

basically, use the turbo one. it's easy to get it to fit. *smiley*

i think my flanges were 10mm on the mirage manifolds, although not sure.

here's a pic:

first one i did i had it m/c off the mating face which i decided against as it

second one i did the bulk of the trial fitting with was purely m/c off the back of the inlet flanges

i think there is a a degree of variability in both BL inlet and Mirage exhaust manifold, sometime you'll get away with, sometimes you won't

even after doing a fair amount of 'casting cleaning' as iain gracefully put it there was still only a couple of mill clearance, not great imo

if you use the MG N/A i think your always ok

The bonnet fouling on my minus is a different isssue, but I did have to mod my mg turbo inlet, I had to reduce the flange thickness to get it to the same thickness as that of the mirage kit.

Sothing i have always wonderd is why does the turbo us that Log type inlet manifold over a more simmiler desgin to the MG inlet manifold? if there a diffrence in flow or somthing? or does the extra volume in the manifold help in some way when the engine is under forced induction?

Hi,
I think the idea was to move the carb further away from the heat of the turbo.
It may need the extra clearance to allow room for the heat shield.
Cheers,
Gavin :)
