Right since it seems quite a common question, I thought it'd be an idea to compile some links to ID and engine number.
BTW I take no credit for these, as they were the result of the forums search function :)

The table linked above indicates that my engine is 9.75:1 compression!

That's top one is a good one as it lists gold / silver seal engine numbers too.
