stoke-on-trent

if you mean the clearance between the rockers and valve guides it should be 12thou - easy done, 13mm spanner, flate blade driver and feeler guages. if i'm on the wrong subject it was a late night last night lol

there are types of feeler gauge, metric and imperial, imperial ones you should set the tappets to 12-18 thou depending on what cam and rockers are used, metric ones something like 30 (.3 mm)

when setting mini tappets you use the rule of 9....

basicaly, if you take the rocker cover off and number the rockers/ tappets 1-8 from left to right (or right to left it doesn't really matter)

wind the engine over until the rocker marked 1 is down, then adjust the tappet marked 8, if you add these 2 no together you get 9.

wind the engine over til no 2 is down, then adjust tappet 7, if you add these together you STILL get 9.

wind no 3 down ect.....

you will end up finishing bu winding no 8 down and adjusting no 1...

Hi,
Yes, spot on :)
You will find that the engine compesses the springs in a different order to 1,2,3, etc.
You can do them in the order the engine compresses them it will save a lot of winding the engine over.
Take the spark plugs out, stck it in 4th and pull the car towards you.
If (lets say) rocker 3 is down then adjust 6. Move the car some more, if 7 goes down then adjust 2 and so on....
Cheers,
Gavin :)
