stoke-on-trent

you can buy complete gasket sets mate and they tend to be pretty obvious as to where they fit

Hi,
Basically it's whatever you took off, you put back on.
It's only the diff housing to main casing that may have had sealant, everything else has a gasket.
Cheers,
Gavin :)

Hi is this the only part of the gearbox that uses sealent instead of gaskets, regardless of year? e.g. is there always a gasket between the gearbox casing and the block?

Cheers

Wellseal rules, silicon is shite unless used to perfection.

hmm, i was considering going sans box/block gasket as the s/c gears seem to mesh beetter without. i figured the less slop the less chatter

a very reputable engine builder said it would be fine with sealant...

Tom, I have been using Wellseal for many years and find it's the best. Blue Hylomar went out with the Arc.
I have done a good few Lotus Twin Cam motors over the last few years and find it's the only sealant thet will keep them reasonably oil tight. Like the Mini engine it's pretty old hat and a combination of different materials but Wellseal does the best job. Just as an after thought do you also use Graphogen as an assembly lubricant?
I have found this to be another excellent Product.

Dave

although one thing to mention, wellseal is nasty stuff. we have to ship it seperately to all the other sealants in special packaging etc.

i dont think its damaging to the skin etc, just causes havoc if released into soils etc.

I do indeed use both Dave, passed on to me about 15 years ago by a good friend of my fathers who used to own a machine shop, they were the only products he would sell, I still use both religiously.
