Just started my turbo mini after a few months sat idle and it went first time. Warmed it through, shut it down and locked the house door to get some fuel. Started it up again and it started to run rough. It got worse and wouldn't tick over and eventually stalled. Would not restart and when I checked the plugs they were soaked with fuel.

What would cause this sudden increase in richness? I fully re built thew carb 12 months ago. Could the needle valve or choke seals fail this quickly?

Any ideas what else it could be?

Cheers for any help.

Nick.

Hi,
Did you fit new choke seals? As apparently they don't come in the kit?
Cheers,
Gavin :)

New choke seals were in my kit. Got it from Avonbar and he said everything was in it (bushes for butterfly spindle and all).

The old seals were past their best so I fitted the new ones.

The strange thing is it has run for 12 months fine and then suddenly changed....

whip the dashpot off and turn the ignition on so the pump kicks in, if there's fuel coming up the jet then the needle valve is fucked/jammed open.
if not i'd suspect choke seals, had a similar problem on mine a while back one day it was running fine the next day it wouldn't run at all.

Hi,
Perhaps the seals dried out while it's been standing? Does seem strange though.
Have you tried the usual suspects, collapsed air intake pipe or fuel pressure?
Cheers,
Gavin :)

If I let mine warm up like that, quite often it will foul a plug or 2..

But follow the above advice to make sure its not a more serious problem

I checked the fuel pressure regulator and it seems fine. No splits etc. Not checked the pressure though.

I'll check the needle valve tomorrow and then go for choke seals.

Cheers guys,

Nick.

Spot on fellas. Just unstuck mine and it works fine.

Is this something that can happen regularly and would changing it prevent it happening agian?

Thanks again.

Nick.

My sister is so fit I won't show anyone her picture

I've had this problem in the past.
I have my fuel pump on a switch, so i used to start the car, allow it to run until it used up all the fuel in the floatbowl & stopped. I would then turn the fuel pump on. The fresh wash of fuel usually cleans the needle valve/seat.
