Hi all,
Having thought about changing my diff ratio. Currently got a dif from the metro turbo box and well it seems to accelerate hard which is good but i got lots of power to play with and tons of torque so i could go for a higher ratio. can you chage the ratio with out chaning the diff? and what would people advice?

Thanks
Alex.

Aye, just unbolt the crown wheel and bolt it back onto the diff. I think theres a difference with A and A+ (i may be wrong though)

Edit,

Anyone on here running a 2.7??

Sorry to hijack.

hi big B,

Im on 13" which i know gives slower acceleration but grater topspeed but it seems that if you put you foot down its toping out in each gear before you can say, ooooooooooooooooooooooo

3.2 Standard? If my memory serves me well.

Im gunna be running a 2.9 on 10s.

I know that Benross's Motor runs a 2.9 on 13s.

Bat, i bet your motor bearly ticks over on the motor way lol! Whats the acceleration like?? Ive been after a 2.7 diff for mine but theyre like rocking horse turd.

I know you all know but just in case, The crown wheel and pinion wheel must be kept as matched pairs!!

given a higher FD ratio gives the turbo longer to spin up, so to speak and gets you to terminal speed in my case .......142 mph!

i run a minispares clubman gearset this gives you best gearing in my opinion

this coupled with a 3.1 fd on 13s would be just righ

i will be changing my fd to 3.1 over the winter from 2.95

for road application its still a tad too tall 2.95

I think it's around 12 MPH/1000rpm so could manage the speed limit at 6k.

I like nice quiet girly Minis

Cheltenham, Gloucestershire

2.7:1 here on standard MPi box, runs beautifully around town and on the motorways, always in the wrong gear on the hilly roads though :(

What are you using the car for?

Road ..... highest final drive you can get for economy and drivability

Track ..... whatever gives you the best final ratio to get out of the corners quickly without leaving you on full revs in top too much (normally a short burst just below the rev limiter in top at the end of the main straight is a good place to start).

Every day is a school day ...........

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...

i want to use the car for Fast road driving. I would love a 5speed box but my body parts arn't made of cash. :( I'll keep my eye out for any one selling bits. Planning on taking the engine out over the winter anyways.
