Hi,

I have two carbs sitting here, I have a regular turbo carb and a turbo challenge carb and manifold...........which one do i use for my road car? Also if i was looking to rebuild the challenge carb is it just a standard turbo carb rebuild kit you would buy?

Hi,
Welcome to TM!
From the one picture I've seen, the challenge carb had all Aeroquip fuel lines. These'll cost you a small fortune to buy, then you'll need the regulator to match, etc.
As far as I know people on here are running a standard turbo carb on engines producing well over 200 bananas, so it's more than up to the job.
Cheers,
Gavin :)

Bat, do they drill tap the reg/carb to take the fittings or use push on adapters?

I was looking a a pic of JF's metro engine bay, the braided fittings look the part, but as you say cost a small fortune...

Hi,
I think they may use a nut and olive compression type fitting.
I don't know if the rest of the carb is standard or not.
The picture I saw was on here, but was a close up of the carb....
Cheers,
Gavin :)

My one uses standard turbo kit. It uses the large choke/throttle seals, not the small ones. Burlen kit only has 2, you need 3.

Extended float chamber spacer, not sure what the braided hose are all about, might be a balancing thing. May be talking out my ass, but I think the needle is longer. Only done a basic rebuild, haven't touched needle/jet. Noticed the little pipes on the front of the carb are blocked.
Will take some pictures tomorrow.

Another question...on a n/a carb, is the throttle cable link on the opposite side???

i think the braided hoses are probably just for race regs/safety

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

think its more for increased reliabilty.

without looking at the blue book i think that under bonnet hoses can be anything, it only has a required spec for inside the car.

could be wrong.

i'm going to do all mine with the proper aeroquip stuff this winter, its going to be pricey. fortunately half of the cars done.

Jon, what is the braided hose part for? Is it balancing or something?

Concerning extended floats. These are obviously of no use if the std "pickup" is used. However, the seller of this:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...E:X:RTQ:GB:1123

Claims this:

Hi, I have been advised that you use the jet from a HIF 7 as the jet is approx. 6mm longer. This allows the pick up point to be set lower.
Regards, David.

Anyone in the know? If this is true, it's excellent news...

Yep the pickup is lower on mine. Can't get the float cover back on without the float chamber spacer.

Standard plenums have only 1 pipe. This one has 2, 1 for actuator, the other for fuel reg'. The plenum pipe for the actuator is restricted for the regulations.
