Look OK for used shells, obviously fit new when rebuilding.

yep, they are stadard size bearings so hoping to get away with using new standard ones again, gotta get the measure stick & plastigauge out *tongue*

defo use new bearings though, i would'nt skimp like that!

i have a spare 1275++ short motor so gonna prep it whilst waiting for bits for my 998turbo to arrive frm minispares :/

i'm hoping it'll all measure up to be able to use just new rings & bearings at standard size, it'll have a turbo of course *happy*

how can i measure the bore for wear only got my cheapo vernier calipers

it's cleaning up nicely though, any opinions on those home use glaze breaking tools for a drill?

this is gonna be done on a super super tight budget!

i know it maybe a dumbass question, but whats meant by the term blueprinted engine?

Blueprinted engine! If only I was young enough to Not Know.
Blue prints were engineering drawings used years ago. They were printed from an original drawing (Ink or pencil on white paper) The print process made the copies that had white lines for the drawing and a blue background. Hence the term "Blue Prints".
All engineering drawings were given a design tolerance + or - whatever. This reflected the ability to manufacture the parts on the equipment available to the desired accuracy and the working tolerance of the parts/materials/design parameters.
The term blueprinting came about as a quick way of describing the optimisation of something mechanical by selecting parts & fit of parts to give optimum performance by using the dimensions and tolerances to gain an advantage but still stay within the original design Parameters.
SAD GIT arn't I

that is'nt sad at all danboy-dave, bloody good description thats helped me a fair bit! so in my novice terms, if i build this engine to the tightest recommended tolarance i'm basically there!!! blueprinted short motor!

vegard: *happy* my pics are ace! i have the finest mobile phone to do these, a nokia i may add *tongue* look close & you can see all the delights & wonders ;P seriously though i'm cack at pics i admit! its to do with the light is'nt it, thats another convo *tongue*

i was only a lil worried about bearing the 1st pic, seems to have worn more in one area?

would pics of the crank journals help at all? i'm gonna measure each journal on the crank at eight points i'll mark with a felt tip (high end engineering this is lol) to see if there is any ovaling! or variations, i'll plastigauge it too!

CMF, Not quite right to build your engine to the tightest tolerances. You need to build it to the optimum tolerances, and all tolerances for each cyl/ crank throw etc need to be the same. I am not in a position to recommend actual numbers as I have no practical knowledge of high performance turbo motors although I will soon be finding out.
The general guide to blueprinting is meticulous attention to detail and total accuracy between cylinders.

i understand now dave my man! match the optimum tolorances of each part to match! an equalibrium situ!

plenty of use of my dial gauge & measuring stick i think, it may pay off though, specially on a budget build

cheers dave i feel pretty enlightend!!! thankyou!
