Can anyone recermend a decent angle grinder that would burn out when trying to cut through years of bodged metal work?

Makita ones are good. Had one for years, used to be expensive. Not sure how much they are nowadays

I have a Hitachi which is very nice. A good mid range grinder.

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

bosch are also nice, as are dewalt.

non are very expensive to be honest.

other way is to do an aldi special or whatever with 1yrs gaurantee and then just keep taking it back, or throw it away. they're less than a tenner at times so you need to be doing a lot to get through them fast enough to make it more expensive than a top make.

i got mine from screwfix for 6 quid.

they seem to last quite well, when they do break pop to screwfix and spend another 6 quid! or buy 2 at a time!

Cheap as possible here, I have a 7 quid ebay special that has been going for 4 years so far, it even came with a spare set of brushes. I have another one in the cupboard in reserve for when this one craps out.

we went through 6 cheap ones in a 2 year period - not quite sure what we were doing with them but the last straw was one seizing and throwing a disc. now either use Bosch or Dewalt - never had a problem with either.

Black and Decker professional series (not usually available in normal stores) did well for me in both drill and grinders. Bought both in '96 - and passed onto my father in 2004. Of course - a lot can happen in 10 years! Quality of these might not be so good now. :)

Pretty sure Black & Decker is Dewalt, anyway buy Bosch (professional range only) or Milwaukee. Come with 3 and 5 yr guarantees.

Got my Bosch from toolstation.com and itslondon.co.uk are also pretty good.

After always buying good quality ones, around £80, I've found the Pro range at B & Q exellent, good price & I was told they carry a 3 year warranty.

Makita makes great gear. At least until you start to use your powertools as a hammer... Broke my drill last week when I used it to punch a pilot hole

PIcked up a Matika one at Machine Mart yesterday, so far I'm really impressed with it, it glides through stuff that the cheapo ones struggled to cut. Hopefully it's last.

I used to have a Bosch one and was very happy with it, especialy given the abuse it got over the years.

Decided to avoid the cheapo ones having wrecked two in one day, and taking them back is a bit of a PITA as where I work on the cars is a good 30min - 40min from any where.

I was always in the cheep camp until I used my mates Dewalt. Like Rob has pointed out a good grinder is a better tool.

As always you get what you pay for. The problem is that grinders tend to get hammered now and again and then put away for ages so it is difficult to justify getting a good one. I bought my Hitachi because my project is at that shell/welding stage so I though it was worth it. It was still only 50 notes so not silly.
