trust me on this, we will not have a major problem getting petrol for our cars in a loooong time. I am very close to finished with a masters degree in petroleum techs. and will single handed find enough oil to power the turbo mini society if needed:)

I know the oil is on decline in the world, but one thing we must not forget is the middle east. 1% increased recovery in saudi arabia equals all of the oil on the norwegian shelf.... most of it is not even thought of being produced yet. The thing is that we have to behave so they want to sell to us, the US of A is not helping.... While oil is on decline, gas finds more uses, and the production of gas is steady, and will be for a long time. Edited by miniminor63 on 13th Aug, 2007. |

It claims that Norway peaked in 01. I just went in to our national oil balance and had a look. We have produced and sold about 3400 Mill Sm3 since the 60ies. and have about 9200 Mill Sm3 of KNOWN oil left. All of this can not be produced, but we are constantly finding new ways of increasing the recovery, (some norwegian fields are close to 70%!) and are constantly finding new fields. They are smaller than before but are still proving economical to produce due to the oil price. The countries in the middle east, and also african countries have much better numbers than norway in their oil balance too... There are a number of reasons why this is not being produced, some political, some economical and some due to lack of knowledge. There are places in the middle east where they still burn gas that are produced (in HUUGE quantities) as they have no facilities to transport it... In the US norwegian companies with knowledge in deep sea production have now started drilling in the deep part of GOM (gulf of mexico). We all know GOM has been a major oil producer for a long time, but is a bit past it now. The area that has been produced in the is a little less than a third of the area where they believe its oil, the rest where too deep for the americans, they have now gotten expertise help on the matter though About you question milamber, In UK the oil may be a bit more stable than the gas, hence why we are building large gas lines from Norway to UK to help you situation currently :) 壣 Edited by miniminor63 on 14th Aug, 2007. |

China and India makes some problems for the industry, thats correct. I think its more due to a very fast growing demand (due to industrialisation) that the industry did not forecast. If you listen to the first movie he tells us that some fields in the ME will come into production in 2008-2009.

Just watched "how do they do it?" on discovery and they showed saabs ethanol powered 95 estate. Turns out it had a higher octane than the petrol.
