Working up the BHP ladder.

Been searching and reading up on here and my head hurts!!!!!*oh well*

Running with no ECU or solenoids to control boost, so a bleed valve will allow me to control the boost pressure upto 16psi (on a T3 built for 16psi) correct?

If so can anybody recommend a bleed valve/pressure relief valve or any other valve which does a similar job by a different name?*wink*

Cheers guys

Karl

Not sure capatcity is of the t3 but yes it will let you run as much as the turbo can give. But you want to be careful don't get carried away

I have this under bonnet bleed valve if you want to buy http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/products/Pro...D&pcode=GLOBCSB

You are better off adjusting the boost with an uprated actuator.

All above true.

Rather than a bleed valve try something like this

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/MBC-Manual-Turbo-Boo...1QQcmdZViewItem

These sort of valves only open when the required boost level is reached where a traditional bleed valve constantly bleeds off a percentage off boost ..... wasting it.

Bleed valves give a softer boost rise than an actuator change or the type of valve in that link and can cause a light drop off of boost over time at peak boost.

Manual boost controllers sucha s in the link above use a spung ball / plunger onto a conical seat. They remain seated until the boost level required is reached and only then will they open and allow the wastegate to start to open. This gives a crisp throttle response and as the is no bleed off of boost there is no creep in boost at full chat.

I'd never use a bleed valve on one of my instalations in favour of this sort of valve.

They are more difficult to build into a multiple boost level system than a bleed valve but it is still possible.

Will be running a R5 twin core intercooler Turbo shed *wink* Compliments of theoneeyedlizard.
Also the actuator 'should' already be set for 16psi as that was the spec from Turbo Technics (all new and shiny).
Cheers Roger will order one of those and prepare for lift off. So they work the same way as the oil pressure spring in the A-series?

I've tried an MBC similar to the ebay one above, it was rubbish, i couldnt get more than 8psi off it, normal bleed valve lets me run 12 - weird

I didnt like the way the MBC was so harsh. With a FWD machine the bleed valve was much more progressive which can only be a good thing.

You can only bleed off so much air so you need to think what minimum setting on the actuator you need before deciding what the max setting is.

i can only bleed off 6psi ish with my setup as it is.

if the actuators already set for 16psi then you wont need a bleed valve, unless you want more than 16psi?

Karl, is this the brand new engine?

If so, I don't think that it's a good idea to stick 16psi down it yet.

Working up the BHP ladder.

Yep this is the brand spanky new 1380. Gonna start off with just a few psi and then build it up once its run in and settled down.
I was after an easy way of adjusting the boost though without changing actuators or re plumbing the whole thing every 2 weeks. lol
Cheers for your opinions guys
Always appreciated.

but surely if the actuators set at 16psi then you can't bleed it down to give lower than 16 for launching etc?

Hi,
Nope, you can't bleed down from the actuator setting only up, as you're 'fooling' the acuator into 'thinking' that 16psi hasn't been reached.
Better to start with a standard actuator, bleed up to it's limit then put the new actuator on.
Cheers,
Gavin :)
