Does the Piston in an SU carb rise according to Vacume or air flow? (throttle position or revs?)

TIA

Airflow.

There is a depression caused by the velocity of the air over the bridge below the piston. There are ports on the bottom of the piston that transfer this depression into the dashpot. This then raises the piston against the spring.

Well you could argue that it rises with the vacuum (depression), the vacuum as a result of the airflow over an oriface (venturi effect), but then it all depends on what 'vacuum' the originator was talking about*tongue*

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

I specifically did not use the word vacuum because this term is generally used in relation to inlet manifold pressure.

Furthermore, strictly speaking a vacuum is a state where no matter exists, hence not correctly applied when discussing sub-atmospheric pressures.

If you want an argument - step outside *happy*

Vacuum

1. Absence of matter.
2. A space empty of matter.
3. A space relatively empty of matter.
4. A space in which the pressure is significantly lower than atmospheric pressure.
