After a bit of advice

Both my outboards have labels on them suggesting 100:1, but theyre both about 20 years old, so Ive always used 50:1

They dont smoke all that much, but just wondering, is there a way of finding out what ratio would be ok without causing a meltdown?

I really dont want them to seize, but 2 stroke oil aint cheap...

If not ill just carry on using 50:1

Hi,
Manufacturers spec is what you go on usually, I don't think there's any way to calculate what is the correct ratio as there are so many variables:
Fuel quality / octane
Air temp
Engine temp
Humidity
Load ......
My 2 stroke toy uses Castrol superbike R2 at £12 a bottle with super unleaded 25:1.
But then even at a 2 day race meeting I probably only get through a fivers worth of fuel :)
Can you still get a 5 gallon barrel of 2 stroke oil, may work out a bit cheaper....
Cheers,
Gavin :)
