Since rebuilding my engine it sounds different. Before, when I lifted the throttle to change gear I could just about hear some light compressor stall (chatter) now I hear a "plughhhhh" sound.

Initially I thought I had a leak in the piping from Turbo to plenum but it seems Ok. I am not seeing any loss of boost on the gauge at full throttle however I do seem to be a bit down on power, but that may be my conservative advance curve...dont want to blow it again!!

I suspect the valve in the plenum or maybe even the butterfly valve in the throttle disk, both probably need to go but anyone recognise this noise?

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

when it opens (probably about 8psi ish as the spring will be a bit weaker than it was) it just sounds like a loud boost leak, sort of a woosh.

atleast thats what mine sounded like when i was first into TM's and didnt block it off.

Just had a look...I think it was because in the absence of a paper gasket I used RTV to seal the inlet pipe and a little may have got on the valve face making it stick.. eventually it freed off and I started to hear the Plughhhh sound. I have inserted the dollar equivilant of 5p's..

No Takers eh.. This confirms that I am the oldest computer geek on the forum... Great...

PLUGH along with XYZZY and PLOVER were magic words in the original Adventure game on PDP11 computers in the mid 70's.. This was before the internet so we had to work out all the mazes ourselves. In the end we got it all (I remember the huge map on the crewroom wall) except a single point... I have since found out that the point was because we did not drop the magazine in the right place...

Ahh those were the days!!

Found my lost power, it must have been dumping a little boost even though I could not see much difference on the gauge. I can still hear the sound, though not as often so I guess next question is weather to block it? If I go to 10psi I planned a dump valve but for now would 8psi with no overboost protection damage the turbo??

I think there are only a couple of us that are old enough to remember the 70s, but I've got no idea what you're on about!

Stephen Hawking - "The greatest enemy of knowledge is not ignorance, it is the illusion of knowledge."
