reading this thread i now realise how little room i have for the turbo and the actuator. my car is a LHD.
at the moment i have a brakeservo but i want to get rid off it to get a cleaner looking enginebay. but is there any room to put the clutch and brake resevoir above the pedals ?????

there is nothing wrong with a A-series that a turbo can't fix.

That is all you need. Nothing more. nothing less. That proves it can be done.

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

other option is mirage manifolds *smiley*

do a search on here if you havent heard of them.

no bulkhead mods then! *smiley*

@Turbo dave: i saw the link before. but now i see that he started without the servo. so i will swop from servo to non servo brakes first. so when it's time to make the turbo box i see what i cab cut away.

@iain: i've seen mirage manifolds before. but that will mean extra cost's and apperantly the stock metro flows better. so thats a bonus to.

but thanx for the response

i knew that someone had a turbo in his lhd. so i emailed i's and this what i got back:

he tilted the block slightly forward and got enough room to get his hand between actuator and bulkhead.

so that is one more "problem"of my list

Nic got second in this year's Mini showdown with the Mirage manifolds. 13.6sec quarter was it? So, I don't think you should worry too much about that!

In the garage......again!!

ok, been reading this with interest, i'm just about ready to cut the bulkhead for the turbo box. Got the Avonbar box but the diagram is really crap that came with it. Anyone got any measurements for where to start the chop, ie, how far from the two holes for the master cylinders, how far down etc.

cheers

As for how far down, the box is shaped so that it will sit in one place only. Theres a lip on the left of the box that sits up flush under the main cross section of the bulkhead.

This pic shows how i fitted mine, the instructions were rubish so i just looked at as many pics on here of the work others had done and then judged it myself.

Hope thats of some help to you

These are the dimemsions I used for the main plate cross-section (custom box), hope this helps, not gospel and only a guide.

as mentioned above,

and the width can be seen to be from the engine steady bracket to almost the tower bracket as the lower bulk head curves away to allow the n/s sub frame tower to be recessed.

The main plate was welded in first and then simply made up the 2 end plates to fit and welded in

The thickness of the box plate was as thick as the bulkhead plate which is the next size up from 16 gauge, I think *smiley*

As with all fabrication of this nature, patience, trial and error and in some cases a bloody big hammer are essential.

BTW - I took my buddy VTEC Pete out for a spin this weekend, and even though I am running her in, he gave it a name, the "Brocket"...cause I'm a brocket maaannn, nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah....

I bought a turbo box from Avonbar some time ago but only just got round to building the car. It came with the main box plus a separate blanking plate for the nearside end of the box. I couldn't work out how on earth that plate should be fitted. It just didn't seem big enough. So using the pictures here, I think I've got it roughly right. Here are some pictures. I am slightly worried there's too much bulkhead left. Perhaps someone could give me their oppinion. As you can see, I've had to add an extra triangle of metal to bridge the gap between the plate and the box and I'll have to fill in the old heater hose hole.

I cut my cross member out all th way to the brace on the near side. That gave me the extra space for the induction pipe. It also looks like my box is slightly wider than yours.

I see on the Avonbar website that they recommend moving the engine forward half an inch. I assume this will help clearance at this point too.

Stop the turbo smacking into your new lovely box.
