Could it be something to do with a voltage stabaliser? The reason I say this is because I have the same problem.

I meter'd out the fuel sender and the resistance went up and down as it was moved up and down so I can assume that is working correcty. When I checked the voltage at the back of the gauge it was 13V and read full but if I faffed around with the wires a little it read 9V and the gauge was reading correct.

When I read the manual it mentioned something about a voltage stabaliser being at fault. It was about a year ago now so I can't remember exactly what I did but still haven't got to the bottom of it!

Its worth checking the resistance accross the 2 terminals when the sender is at the top and bottom.

Also check the voltage, before the sender and after, and at the gauge.

I gave up, so keep us posted if you sort it..lol

Hi,
Does the gauge go all the way past full if you join the 2 wires together at the tank?
Cheers,
Gavin :)

just done a couple of quick checks and it still does the same thing, if i just connect the 2 wires together it goes right to the top as well...

benross i dont think its the sender as i changed that when i changed the tank, unless i am verry unlucky and got 2 tanks in a row with a knackerd sender*tongue*

thanks..Dan

There are two connections on the sender. One is spot welded to the sender body and is an earth, one of the wires coming to it should be black, this is the earth. Check with a meter it is, then connect it. The other connection is a variable resistor, this will have a white nylon circular "bush" where the connection meets the sender body, the other wire goes to this, should be green/black.

Hi,
If it goes to the top when you join the wires it can only be the sender :(
Measure the resistance across the 2 sender terminals...
Cheers,
Gavin :)

Is this the SPI tank you had off me Dan? As I know the fuel sender in that worked, as it was wired into my car and worked OK.
