Is there any structural strength in the rear seat bins? Or can I just cut em out?

Hi,
Every last little bit on a Mini plays some part in it's structural strength.
Rear bins and the base of the seat tie the two sides of the car to each other and the floor.
They help absorb side impacts in an accident situation.
Cheers,
Gavin :)

I've cut mine out as well, what I'm gonna do is weld in a panel from the side of the seat support to the side of the car and the inner sill then extend the seat panel over the top hopefully making a box section :)

There is no sense crying over every mistake- you just keep on trying til you run out of cake.

Are you fitting adecent cage? If not then I'd not bother cutting the bins out unless you've run out of seat clearence (hwo tall are you????)

Every day is a school day ...........

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

Not unwise Sprocket.

I've done that before, also gusseted the B pillar to support it in an impact when I've removed the bins. It's amazing how much load a small gusset can transfer!
