just been doing the clutch on the 998 turbo. I bought a mini spares turbo one, because the standard one stared slipping presumed it was just due to the boost.

When we took flywheel off it was clear that oil had been pissin out of the seal and wet the friction plate. So was cause of slippage.

Coincidently a mini specialist guy was round looking to buy my mates mini, he suggested it was due to lack of breathers, only have one on tappet cover. So i need one on transfer case and chain cover.

So we cleaned clutch and put it back on so i can still use car till ican get hold of new bits.

Just driving home and the engine is vibrating odd, like unbalanced, i did have the flywheel balanced with pressure plate, can the pressure plate be put on in a differnt place causing the imbalance?? It really struggles to rev past 5k under load, whareas before it could fly round to 6-7k
its like a completely differnt engine:(

oh and also going to dominos for some pizza in my mates supercharged mini, his engine overheated really bad and started pinking. we pulled over and looked, the paint on the head was bubbling!!!!

i'm flipping cursed i am, dont let me in any of your minis, ill knacker em up LOL

Its a 998 timing cover and flywheel housing, so they have no breathers. just need to fit the ones with breathers off 1275 i think, when i do the new clutch.

Hi,
You could drill the one you've got, I've done it before.
You did put the flywheel on the crank the right way round? You can get them 180 degrees out!
Cheers,
Gavin :)

Yeah was thinking to drill and tap the transfer casing for breather. But either way i gotta take it off.

My mate is obsessed with his windy gun, so we buzzed the flywheel up. The lock washer can only go one way round same as the flywheel IIRC.

Its just sat on me drive not going anywhere till its stripped again.

Cheers for advice guys, keep it coming, its probably something simple i hope!!

benross, he is running one of those decompression plates and 2 haed gaskets, reckon thats the problem?

he has been thrashing it about for a month or so now, had it on the rollers, Rob saw water seeping out from the head gasket also.

Cheers for advice, ill pass on info to him. He should come on here himself really but he is not a computer guy. doesn't even watch tv!!!

You can get them 180 degrees out!

you shouldnt be able to fit them 180 degs out as the keyway / slot on the flywheel and crank are off set from the centre line... so if 180 degs out then it wont line up and the keyplate shouldnt fit... unless its a very worn keyplate...
