When I try to crank the engine over it is as if the distributor is firing to early so it kind of lurches round if that makes sense as the starter motor tries to combat the the spark.

The engine is timed into the correct 11 degrees btdc. This seems to be more of a problem when it is cold rather then hot. and sometimes it will just crank over normally. It doesn't seem to make much difference if I back the timing off loads either. I am just wondering what peoples thoughts on the matter are.

The engine seems to run perfectly when it is idling and revving but just the starting seems to be a problem.

Also I can't actually get at the car right now as I am at uni, but when I go home I would like to have some possible leads.

Thanks.

try making sure your ht leads are apart from each other , sometimes the spark voltage runnig down a ht lead can induce a pulse in a neighbouring plug lead and that cylinder fires as well .

Medusa + injection = too much torque for the dyno ..https://youtu.be/qg5o0_tJxYM

Hi,
Could be a faulty battery or starter motor, a poor live or earth connection on the main power cables....
Cheers,
Gavin :)

does it try to catch then make a whizzing noise when you stop cranking??

my old starter did this, it was due to the dog not engaging the ring gear properly and im presuming as a result the dog spinning its tits off

These are all useful leads, cheers guys. I will hopefully go home to play with it next weekend. I think a combination of the above listed problems could be causing the problem.

The postive battery terminal is a bit iffy, and also the distributor is probably not the best. I will find the one that came of the engine originally, the cap was broken and different so will buy another cap.
