Working up the BHP ladder.

Been trying to fire up this engine all day and alas it really isnt having any of it!

I've checked and re-check ed the timing 8degrees BTDC. Has a good spark, fuel is getting there, pressure reg set a 4 psi, but apart from few occasional coughs and splutters of attempted life.............nothing*frown*

The engine spec is:

1380 with Avonbar Phase 2 cam
Fully modified head
Shiny new Turbo carb

The Cam timing was checked and rechecked before final build, and as i have built engine before am confident i got i right!

Any ideas guys?
This is my first Turbo build so any particular starting method?

Thanks

Swing the dizzy whilst cranking, see if that encourages it at all.

Its generally something silly you've missed. Back to basics first

Definately not 180 degrees out lads. No.1 is on its compression stroke. Will give that a try tommorrow Tom have adjusted the timing around but not whilst cranking.

are but have you been turning engine in tedirection of travel as most peeps me included have turn engine over backwards and puts timing well out.

if there is spark, fule ect then either leds are on wrong or timing out.

set no1 to tdc turning engine in right direction.

remove dizzy make the larger section of dizzy drive spigot at 1 oclock.

fit dizzy so electric module is over the the clamp.

make number one on cap at 1 oclock

then she will fire up straight away

try this then post back

always looking for them bigger bunches of bannanas

Working up the BHP ladder.

Update time. Tried crancking whilst adjusting the timing but no joy! So i take the plugs out and they appear a lil flooded. No problem i'll spin it over and throw the juice out the plug holes. The amount coming out of 3 and 4 looked like a water ride in Florida.

So on reflection it looks like the 'shiny new' carb is faulty and petrol is just being pumped into the cylinders (Hope there not too washed).

Checked the carb out and the choke doesnt seem to seal off properly, but still thats a hell of a lot of petrol in the cylinder.

Any clues?

OK a complete mystery??? Carb stripped and checked and all ok.

Now cant get enough petrol out of the carb to start the engine. Pressure in is about 4 psi, float bowl fills up, but the engine just cranks on the starter. Chucking some fuel in the venturi bursts the engine into life untiil it uses it and then dies again?

I am using 8mm feed and return pipes with the return T'd into the low pressure side at the back end. is this ok?

take off dashpot and then turn on ign and check to see if fuel comes up the main jet. if it does then float needle isnt sitting properly and flooding the engine.

also check the float to see if it hasnt filled up with fuel i had this problem which was a headache untill i found the problem.
