Ive just paid 50 for these pistons. That 4 with Gudgoen Pins (no rings) Thought id chop 1 in half which met an unfortunate end in the lathe! Whoops!

Nice!

But, would it not have been better if you sectioned the piston across the pin rather than through the pin boss's? You would have a better idea of the crown profile in the critical areas.

I like cutting things up, lol, i now have two blocks sectioned, a 1275 A+ and an 850 *tongue*

You butcher *tongue*

Fair size on that view on the thickness of the crown. The dish looks as though it has alot of volume as well.

What cc are they?

Looks like a very strong piston indeed !!!!

I measured a CP Piston we used on some 2.33 Subarus ages ago. The crown thickness was only 5.5mm !!!!!!!!!!

?
Im guessing high power scooby units as well. Setup on the flat fours is brill though, reasonably reliable, and sound like god gurgling.

Only commenting, as 5.5mm it bloody thin !!!

That cutaway looks like a lot thicker than that, and I'd imagine most pistons have thicker crowns.

I think the pin boss is masking the true strength of these pistons hence why its better to cut them the other way *wink*

Not doubting that these would be good for a general rebuild, doubt id be fitting them to a high reving or mega boost engine though.

What you doing cuttin it in half on a lathe in the first place? Just curious.

What are the applications of these pistons according to the manufacturers?

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

if that was done on a lathe i'd worry about the operator *happy*

i think a band saw or just hacksaw has been called into action.

i'm guessing he was machining a bigger dish?

nice work, it's good to see a cut of a piston.

Ha, no i wasnt trying to cut a piston in half on a lathe? Cant see how you would come to that conclusion as it would be impossible!

The CNC machine apparently fucked up? Or more like the spaz i gave it to put the wrong coodinates in? but hey ho accidents happen. The pistons had been sent off to have a bigger dish put in them. I have read up on the pistons and it seems they have a good rep. From racing hand hill climbing.

These pistons will be ran in my turbo engine at around 10psi of boost maybe a little more running a cossy intercooler and megojoly.

Ill let you guys know how i get on!

Cheers

Mike

I've just received my 1100 Hypatecs. They have thi slot as we.. At a guess the TT2 does have these pistons, and has held up rather good right? THe same goes for Benjamin (?) in Aus.

The TT2 and my 998 both have the Minispares 20950 pistons.

Mine do not have slots and neither does the TT2.

Vegard, where did you get your 1100 hypatecs from?

Very cheap, and excellent service! I had them in Norway five days after I ordered them.

Thanks, I thought they might be from there.

think this is strange, as the hypatec 1275 pistons they use themselves in australia does not have oil slots, but holes.... I know a few down there using them.
