I wouldnt mess with used oil coolers, too much risk of crap in them, just buy that one 25 quid seems OK for a nice clean one..

It's amaller than a post card, I wouldn't think it was worth bothering with unless you ducted it very carefully.

Hi,
Yes the MS oil cooler is twice the size of the first one. As said above the first one probably isn't worth fitting as the second one (twice the size) is what you'd fit to an NA Mini which wouldn't get the oil as hot as a turbo motor will.
Also on the first one there is no mention of what size fittings are on the cooler so it may not fit your pipe work.
Cheers,
Gavin :)

Hi,
You could go with a narrower one, just add more rows to compensate.
Eg 115mm x 20-25 rows

Gavin :)

i run a 13 row narrow cooler on my mini (1.4 16v turbo K @1.2bar) like the one pictured, after a good kicking the oil cooler is warm to the point i can touch it for a second or 2 before it burns, if i jsu tlet the car sit and idle it gets warm to the point where i cant touch it. not a very scientific test, but it clearly does the job when im on the moove. the cooler has a totally unrestricted flow of air to it aswell. i dont run a thermostat, and only had oil temperature issues on long hard high speed runs so chose an intentionally small cooler so it only really does anything whne im motoring along at a fair old pace :)

if you want that wee one for space reasons then buy it and an oil temp gauge and see how you fare, alot of the general advice found online with regards oil coolers seems to be overkill, imho ofcource!

turbo 16v k-series 11.9@118.9 :)

Do you actually need an oil cooler? Fit a gauge first off and check what your temps are like.

The thing is,
Ive always had one due to living in london.
during works rush hours, i tend to always get stop and start traffic, which makes the oil get very hot.
as ive thrown my very old 10 row cooler away.
I wanted another one but not so long, due to room, and as ill be placing a intercooler.. ill try the smaller 13row one i guess..
Cheers

Just because you have always had one doesn't mean you need one. Have you ever actually monitored the temperature? Too cold is just as bad if not worse than too hot.

Ok few dumb Questions then, as im still learning stuff *wink*
Ill try with out a oil cooler to see how i go.
But what shall i use to block the hole's off on the engine block and oil filter that the oil cooler hoses connect to ?
Or do i just connect the hose for the oil filter hosing to the part on the engine block, if u get me ?

Also, i have one of these on me car.

Whats the idea of this..
Cheers

Hi,
Yes, just run a pipe from one to the other.
You'll need an oil temp gauge too *wink*
Cheers,
Gavin :)

Hi,
It comes with a sender unit which you need to mount in the oil flow or the sump.
I guess the easiest way would be to tee it into the oil pressure switch oil feed out the front of the block, or in the pipe between the filter and the block.
Cheers,
Gavin :)

You know the temps on the clocks..
One's for the fuel of course... and the other ones for the water temp isnt it ? coz in traffic that used to rise high..

You can tell ALOT from oil pressure, you will find that as the temp rises the pressure will drop, if it drops to stupidly low pressures then its a good indication that your oil is getting too hot. *wink*

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

careful putting the sensor at the front t'd into the oil pressure gauge as there is no flow through there (if you dont have a turbo feed!) so its not representative of the temp.

Also i found in winter that the air through the grill altered the readings, with something to stop the sensor getting cold i had a lot more sensible reading.

Best place to put one in is in a mocal temp sender adaptor that only cost £15ish i think.
