We're contemplating looking into purchasing a discovery. I know sufficient (ly little!) about the S1 as these were pretty similar to the rangerovers I know and love, but what about the Series 2 discovery? These look like a whole new ball game - an unfamilar manifold suggests a non-familar engine for one... A longer side profile suggests a totally different chassis (driveline?) than I am used to as well.

So - Anyone have experience of these? I know we have a few Landrover folks on here... *wink*

I have a 97 P reg Discovery. I have that it for 2 six months the milage is up to 160k now and is has not missed a heart beat..

The build quality is good in a rugged "built to last" manner.

Everything still works which is suprising for a 10 year old car.

I do not know alot about Landrovers/Rangerovers but I have been old mine is the "300" series.

I love it.

Series II has the same ladder style chassis as the earlier models but has the much improved R380 gearbox and BMW TD5 diesel engine. All together a far superior machine than than the Series I.

Hi,
Geared for the American market *wink*
I was at LR this week, there's not many of them that look the same, let alone the mechanical differences...
8 RRs bumper to bumper driving around the plant makes for a strange looking train though.
Cheers,
Gavin :)

The older TDi engine is far better than the TD5. We have both at work, and I would pick one of our TDi Land Rovers over a TD5 any day. The TD5 isn't a BMW engine, it was designed by Land Rover, and the design began before BMW ownership.

We have a H reg discovery at work, and it is becoming a bit a weld-a-thon for each MOT. I believe the series 2 is much better in this respect.
