Pretty much what Turbo Dave said. I was advised against these cheapo auto darkening maskes as aparently the darkening times are a little slow. Its something you wont really notice but it eventualy damages your eyes with prolonged use. I bought a Sealy one for just shy of £100, currently on ebay for less http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SEALEY-SOLAR-POWERED...1QQcmdZViewItem . Ii went for a well known brand that way i would be sure it was of a decent quality. Dont mess with your eyes, they are worth more than a £35 mask!!

LOL yeh, I tried those, and for an amature welder, i found it difficult, lol, just me, I did find the reactive lense gave me a free hand to steady the trigger hand over the work piece, my welds are no where near as shit now, could be described as playing snooker, and im just as bad at that Edited by Sprocket on 21st Oct, 2007. i've got the speedglas battery powered mask and its perfect. even works after dropping it in a bucket of water. had it a good few years and never changed the battery, should the battery fail it will automatically go dark.

been down this road too. You get what you pay for. We had a cheap one that didn't darken quick enough or at all sometimes I started welding. Arc eye is not a nice experience and would recommend getting the best one you can afford. |

a good mask will also improve your welding. you can see what your doing so start in the right place and dont wonder, you have a hand free to hold things and stady the torch, also when welding you can see more so makes it easier to direct the flow of weld. |
