i know that when you build a kit car that you need to have it inspected before use.
so was wondering if i were to build a bike engined mini, fabricating my own frame, does anyone know what sort of inspections if any it would need. or would it be a case of just sending it for an MOT.

cheers

As far as I know ,it can just be MOT'd in the uk. Worst scenario is it gets q plated.
However in places like australia, a qualified engineer must inpsect the build continuously.

Hi,
You may need to get it inspected (SVA test) This will depend on how much you change / what it ends up being registered as and so on.
Roger is the oracle on this *wink* (Sorry Roger! *wink* )

The Z Cars kits don't need SVA testing, but it's worth checking for a homemade jobbie.

I'm sure that none of the 16v mini boys take their cars for an SVA, so I think that you should get away without one.

I'd try and do it without an SVA because they are a right pain to get through.

Someone who I knew who took a GTM Libra for an SVA had it fail on the roof aerial, which was a factory fitted metro one!

if you re-shell a car eg a mini you need to get it sva tested if you produce all the correct documents as somone i know had to. but as the 16v boys are only changing the engine they dont really need to. its only when you chang big things like full on space frame fiberglass car ect

Don't take a mini into a sva test- it'll fail. An unmodified mini will fail AFAIK on things like steering column etc.

There is no sense crying over every mistake- you just keep on trying til you run out of cake.

Id class the minus as a reshell. So as long as the right vin is registred to the reg.

Way ive worded it. sorry.

So long as when you take it in for the MOT, its got the right vin number thats in the log book on the body of the car it should be alright.

Is it a reshell from a steel shell or did the minus ever get registred on the road?

The steel reshell I just put the donar vin and plates on. The minus was never completed let alone registered, but I do have log book, vin and plates for a '68 cooper?
