I was glancing through the current mini magazine which featured a 131bhp 1380, is this possible if so how? must have spent loads to get this surely?

Quite possible. The head and cam are the key. If you get the bugger to rev you'll see big numbers.

Hence why the K1100 headed A-series are so good, co boy can they rev.

Hi,
Mine will do 125 ish. Nothing special really, 285 cam and a big valve head. It's the same as the one on the rear cover of Vizards book.
Bottom end is standard other than balancing.
The torque curve is what you really want to look at rather than the bananas ... mine pulls 66 curley whirlys at 2000 rpm *surprised*

Cheers,
Gavin :)

Yeah I agree with Gavin, its the Cam choice and head that are the key... my 1430 had 136 bananas on its last trip to the RR, Im using a Longman large port head with Rimflow valves. 36.5mm inlet and 31mm exhaust with a APT VP8C Scatter cam (which I know is lumpy) but you get power up to 8000rpm and is grand cause I dont use it as my daily driver *happy*

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

yeah thats good going at the wheels though on some rolllers. i know on my rollers that equates to about 120ish at the fly.

have to say that the wheels figures is low, but once corrected, its had that many cars on there that you know the flywheel figure and its consistant for going back to etc.

end of the day the figure isnt that important, its how it performs!

My aim is to get 138bhp from my 1380cc. Im at about 120bhp before i changed to 1.5 roller rockers and twin carbs (if they will help) need to find 18bhp from some were mite take the alternator off for the rolling road. hehehe cheating i know.

Surely you can rig a heavy duty relay to disconnect the alternator electrically, which will make it take practically zero power. Then you could switch it off whenever you needed the extra.

However, I don't think you'll see much benefit. When putting out 50 Amps, that is 700 Watts at 14 Volts. That is a bit less than one horsepower output power. Wikipedia says the conversion is at least 50% efficient. So that says at most you could gain 2HP - probably less.

Fantastic to think of getting 100HP per liter from an A-series with a 5-port head! What sort of RPM?

last run peak power was around the 6k mark, with the rockers it mite be higher, of course the problem with rolling roads is on one you mite get 120bhp on another only 100bhp or more or less there abit pants like that but a printout with 138bhp would be nice.

I dont think the 130bhp 1380 and being drivable is a problem to achive at all.

Im looking at my 1400 and thinking that with 100 bhp/lbft on a 246/276 cam, standard MG metro valve sizes and standard bore LCB, that extra 30 isnt that far away?? with a 286 scatter cam, big valve head and a large bore lcb. Add to that the benefits of fully mapable ignition and fueling.

I dont see it being a problem and driveble.

Compression ratio is the key that brings it all together.

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

Not only is that kind of power possible from a 1380 but there's one producing even more power in the for sale section.

the last time my 1380 5 port was on baldwins rollers showed 146bhp - real 130bhp ish, and was quick and streetable, the 1380 K on the other hand is in another leauge entirely and has a far broader span of power

If Carling made Mini engines
it would probably be like this one!
