if you are sure that the cam timing and ignition timing is correct you will find your fueling is light year out!

I checked the mixture with a colour tune thingy once it had warmed up and if anything it looked a bit rich, plug came out black and sooty. Ignition timing.....dont understand why the marks never lined up? If i go by the original mark its running about 35degrees ATDC?????? Confused.......? I sure as hell am. lol

But didnt you say the original mark was some 40deg out ? 9.85 @ 145mph

If the timing mark on the pully has moved, Its goosed, get a new one soon or you may find a half kilo mass of steel flying around the engine bay On 26th Oct, 2004 TurboDave16v said:

40 deg is a HUGE amount though.
9.85 @ 145mph

There is an A series pulley with the mark in a different position - I have one and it confused the hell out of me for a while. Never have worked out what it is from though! |

I think I remember seeing an inline engine with the marks on the otherside of the engine.

Avonbar tell me thats the right pulley and that the old cooper S ones had the timing pointers in a different place.

So what sort of timing are you seeing at 3000rpm etc ? 9.85 @ 145mph

My engine alway ran fine when blown between 2-3. Of course it was noticeable, but still totally driveable.
9.85 @ 145mph

Ok here is the update folks. Pulled all the bits n pieces off the carb to check the right gaskets were fitted and they were ok. Checked the dizzy and it advanced upto about 20 degrees but still no joy.
