hi

iv done a quick search but i couldn't find anything.

can you take the pistons off the con-rods without breacking the piston or damaging them?

the 15cc forged omega pistons i bought new from someone on ebay have standerd con-rods that im not sure i want to use as i want them lightend etc along with the crank so its smooth reving engine. and hopfully it would help it rev higher?

cheers

Pay someone else to do it. :)
Could try a flypress...but is it worth risking £400 worth of pistons????

Josh, I have made a piece to support the Omega piston while the pin is pressed out.
You can borrow it if you want.
You will need acess to a press to do the job properly

Hi,
I thought you heated the little end of the rod till it's a straw colour then they almost fall out?
Cheers,
Gavin :)

That's during assembly. How do you manage to heat the rod, and NOT the wrist pin when it's fitted?

I'll pay someone to do it. It's so easy to break them.

Mine gets in the way a bit, but only when it is up. If it is down it does not cause a problem.

Anyone who has ever removed pistons from rods for me has done so with a disclaimer beforehand along the lines of "I'll do my best, but if one gets damaged hard lines".

Next question, why do you want to mess with the rods, standard ones do the job just fine, plenty of people use them with no problem, I've never known a turbo engine bust a rod as generally they don't rev all that high. More important though is the rod bolts, I use ARP personally.

Ive done it with 3 large cap head bolts and a vice, they were buggered pistons though! I would never do it with good ones.

Take it to a professional everytime.

Hi,
I took my rods to a professional, and thats how they did it. Welding torch with a fine tip, heat it up away you go :)
Cheers,
Gavin :)
