Well the cam cover is pure 8v - the true giveaway you can't see clearly (I haven't zoomed the pics yet)is if the injector positions are in the head. The 8v has them after the inlet manifold in the head the 16v has them in the manifold. Hence if its an 8v these would have been plugged/welded.

I don't see how that can be a 16v as the bolts which hold the cam cover on are in the wrong place. the 16v ones should be staggered shouldn't they? On 15th May, 2009 TurboDave said:

Vegard is slightly wrong - engine was stripped and found to be 1100cc and car was allegedly disqualified as was entered in under 1000cc class! On 5th Sep, 2011 Vegard said:

lol I wonder if a 1071 crank found its way in instead of a 970? First post here states it's a 970 crank, so i doubt it... http://www.theminiforum.co.uk/forums/index...showtopic=46645 That carbon-fibre plug cover (not cam cover, but plug cover) looks kinda nice... On 17th Nov, 2014 Tom Fenton said:

Thats just it, Morspeed do not have an engine dyno. The videos of this engine are very carefuly filmed so to make it difficult to see if its a 16v or an 8v to the un trained eye, not only that, but its filmed in such a way so you cant see if there is an engine brake fitted, to the un trained eye.

Still a mystery then - of course we don't know if it really was accidentally built as a 1050, intentionally built as a 1050 to race illegally, or as a 999, and then modified later to gain an edge...

8v covers just don`t fit onto a 16v head,,, (& vise-versa) way too much stuff around to even think about bothering to "try" too either

I've just been thinking about this... And it annoys me a little - becuase if this had been posted as being a little 1050 screamer, using the 8v head instead of the 16v for whatever reason (had to be 8 valves for the class, for example), then this would have been uber cool - and praise would have come from many corners - myself for one.
