If you have a new machine you can put it in a caddy and try Lost and found...
Or stick it in the machine if the connections are the same.

You can send them to a specialist but man thats expensive.

I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.

Hi,
If the drive won't spin up then no recovery software will work, you'll need to get the drive repaired before you can read the data :(
Plug the HDD back into the machine it came from and see if you can hear it spin up when you turn the PC on....
Cheers,
Gavin :)

you can get a windows xp cd that will boot up directly from the cd eliminating booting up from the hdd. although it runs slow, its perfect for starting up windows, copying the data you need across to another pc that is networked to it, or a secondary hdd / removable one.

Data recovery from broken drives is very expensive. Rebuilding the drive has a very low sucess rate.

My fingers are crossed for you.

i had this prob a few years ago carl, in the hd theres a wiper arm that travels across the disc and picks up data , bit like an old gramaphone player , if it stops working the hd can make a click click click noise ,this is when i took off the side of the hd ,and tried to repair it by putting the arm from another hd in with its motor ,unfortunately i couldnt get the nut holding the arm undone and that was where i stopped . if you have a go then the main thing is to keep it all totally dust free .

That's why they are constucted in a controlled enviroment. The slightest bit of dust will corrupt the data.

If the information is very important to you you then get it done properly.

Connect it to your new tower. Set the jumper on the back of the hard drive to slave if you new one runs a IDE hard drive. If its SATA, theres no jumpers. Try and copy the data.....if it spins up of coarse

turn on teh shower in your bathroom reall hot, let it run till it is very steamy. turn it off, when the steam(well, techinically water droplets) has gone from the air it will have pulled all the dust down with it. you can then rebuild your old hard drive useing a suitable donor for spares. if the data isnt that valuable and you fancy soem DIY :)

I also have some software, kindly donated from internet land...But it does need the drive to be functioning. I can send it if you need it ?
EasyRecovery professional

You also need enough spare drive space on another drive, to "recover" any data to.

For those interested....here is a Laptop drive that packed in on a friends a couple of years back...
