Have you tried turning it off and on again....pmsl

Works for most other things..*laughing*

Could be the classic car thief trick of making the alarm go off several times till you get pissed off with it and turn it off....then they break in? *oh well*

I think the clever german buggers linked the alarm into the OBD port, may be worth getting someone to plug a code reader in as it might be able to tell you what is setting it off.....

Hi,
Check the bonnet switch, common problem on most alarms as they're out in the elements getting covered in crud.
Cheers,
Gavin :)

my ex company Mk4 golf had exactly the same problem. Local VW dealer 'fixed' it by unplugging the siren connection apparently. It useed to still go off - just didn't make any noise.

I know if you plug it in to the diagnositic port, it should tell you which sensor is triggering the alarm - it does on my audi

was thinking that wasn't to helpful shane lol.

Nor is your comment NIC! *wink*

Cheers chaps, its looking like a plug in, I've now ordered some stuff to do this, I'll keep you updated, interestly enough driving home today the display flashed up a few times saying the luggage compartment was open when I clearly wasn't so I'm thinking this is the area for the alarm going off! i'm guessing there is a sensor around this area.

Perhaps the pin switch is on the locking mechanism itself....just a thought.

the switch is in the lock mechanism. Strip it out and clean everything up in the fist instance

Right the passat is sorted, (well I hope) as I said earlier my thoughts turned to the boot catch. I looks like the plug with the wires joining it to the catch sensor was all summed up and looked like it had water in! when I removed it (after turning the ignition on) the warming light on the dash went out! After cleaning it up and putting some copper grease on it. the light stayed out when the door was closed, the alarms been on all day and so far hasn't gone off.

Thanks for all your thoughts on this one.
